Rakaia Lodge

Rakaia lodge sleeps 8 adults and 2/3 children: one bedroom with a double, a second bedroom with a double and 2 bunks, 4 single beds across 2 more bedrooms, and can sleep an additional 1/2 more on the pull out sofa bed in the lounge, and all other facilities.

Make sure that you take: Your own pillows, toilet paper, general cleaners, tea towels etc.

Lodge facilities

The Don Brown Memorial Lodge at South Rakaia is situated close to the Rakaia mouth, on one of the South Island’s best salmon rivers. This is also a great trout and kahawai fishery.

This lodge replaced an earlier simple 4 bed fisherman’s cottage, and was donated to the club by Lady Diana Isaac, being moved to site in 2012. It has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8 adults, and 2/3 children on bunks or the pull out sofa bed in the lounge.

The kitchen has a full electric stove and refrigerator/freezer and microwave, there is a large lounge – named after our benefactor, The Lady Diana Isaac Lounge, and a full bathroom. Heating is way of a log burner.

The single garage has room for dinghies or quad bikes, and also has a shower and toilet. There are power outlets outside, to allow for the connection of caravans and campers.

Nearest telephone in case of emergency: See the sheet in the blue folder in the hut. Cell phone coverage is patchy and should not be relied on, particularly down on the beach.

Nearest shops/garage: Rakaia – about 20 minutes drive away (21km).

Nearest meal: Rakaia – hotels and several cafe’s.

Hut address: Our Don Brown Memorial Lodge is situated at hut # 25, South Rakaia Huts which is 21 km south of Rakaia township by sealed road. Turn right down and into the Hut Reserve on arrival, then first left into Dolphin Drive.
